JMC's André Bourbeau House
Located in the heart of Plateau Mont-Royal in Montreal, Jeunesses Musicales Canada's André Bourbeau House includes a concert hall that can hold an audience of 100 people. The acoustic qualities of the hall, entirely lined in maple, along with a Bösendorfer piano permanently residing in the room, offer optimal conditions in which to appreciate a broad spectrum of music composed for an intimate setting. also houses the organization’s headquarters.
As an ideal space for musical initiation, each year, JMC's André Bourbeau House welcomes some 12,000 children of ages 3 to 12 who attend concerts or workshops designed especially for them. Each visit to JMC's André Bourbeau House is a wonderful opportunity for young people to explore the world of performance and to stepinto the fascinating universe of music.
JMC's André Bourbeau House also serves as a performance hall for many other concerts:
The Happy Hour Concerts series : A dynamic concerts series in a “Happy Hour” format, on Thursdays from October to June. An aperitif is served at 6:00 p.m., followed at 7 p.m. by a concert of about seventy minutes in duration.
The Concertinos famille series : A series of concerts for families, on Sundays at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., from October to June. A wonderful opportunity for families to see and hear the magic of music!
History of the JMC House
The building, designed by architect Harold Lea Fetherstonhaugh, was constructed in 1932. Known as the Laurier Clinic at the time, it was the Laurier neighbourhood’s main medical and dental clinic. The City of Montreal later renamed it the Siegler Clinic in honour of a local alderman.
In December 1984, JMC took up residence as a tenant in the building. On July 6, 1999, the City of Montreal transferred ownership of the building to JMC, which allowed the organization to undertake a major renovation project. The JMC Foundation contributed to the project by overseeing its administration and obtaining funding from the governments of Quebec and Canada. Architect Renée Daoust, of the firm Daoust, Lestage Inc., designed the interior. The City of Montreal has classified JMC's André Bourbeau House as having a significant architectural value.
